Mangaluru: halal dispute An ice cream business has been hit in the coastal Mangaluru city as messages on social media platforms started calling for boycott of the brand.
The uproar is a sequel to the recent hijab row that has given rise to several other flashpoints in a short span of time such as a campaign against allowing Muslim traders into temple fairs and a halal meat campaign.
A message on social media said, “Hindu businesses are urged to remove Halal certification from their products within a month. If this is not done, Karnataka, especially Udupi, DK and Mangalore, including parlors Will boycott the brand.”
The brand in question certified its product Halal a few years ago following a campaign alleging that the ingredients used in the ice cream were not suitable for consumption by a community.
After the business was hit, the company got the product Halal-certified. Now, the same certification has created new trouble for the brand.
Firm sources told TOI that the management will adopt a wait and watch policy.
“The competition seeks to bring down the brand because they cannot match the quality or price. Halal means any food that is suitable for consumption. This does not mean that it only deals with meat products. Too many There is a misconception that Halal means only meat product,” said a source, adding that they do not wish to make any official statement at this time.
The brand has confirmed on its website that the ice cream and other products are completely vegetarian. Even eggs are not used to make ice cream.
