Mysore : Mysuru city police on Friday registered an FIR against Shivmurthy Murugha SharanPriests of Murugha Math in Chitradurga, for alleged sexual assault of four girls aged 12 to 15 years. According to the FIR, the seer assaulted the girls while six others forcibly took them to their private rooms, threatened them when they refused to leave and prevented others from entering.
The case was transferred to Chitradurga where the incident reportedly took place between 2019 and 2020.
After recording the statement through a special meeting that began at 6.30 pm on Thursday, the child welfare panel asked the city police to register the case at 10.30 am on Friday. Police Commissioner Chandragupta said that the Nazarabad police have registered an FIR against the sadhu and his six associates under the POCSO Act.
Significantly, on August 27, the city police had registered the first FIR against Sadhu for sexually assaulting two other minors, which led to his arrest.
Threatened girls for not going to sadhu’s room: FIR
The Mysore-based organization Odanadi Seva Sansthan helped two survivors and their mother, an employee of the monastery, approached the quasi-judicial child welfare committee in August to file their complaints.
According to the latest FIR, it has been alleged that children were threatened when the saint refused to go to his private room. Police said the girls’ mother said that they did not register the complaint for all these years out of fear. According to sources, Odanadi approached the CWC on Thursday evening after consulting several well-known activists and feminists from Mysore, who met the victims.
