Amid fresh COVID-19 concerns, the Karnataka government on Saturday directed officials to initiate surveillance measures for those arriving from Japan and Thailand, including RT-PCR tests for symptomatic cases at an airport testing laboratory.
Screening, surveillance and tele-monitoring have been directed for certain international arrivals as per the recommendations of the State COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
A government circular states that at Bengaluru International Airport and Mangaluru International Airport, on arrival from the above-mentioned countries will have to undergo thermal screening.
Symptomatic individuals should be tested through RT-PCR at the airport testing laboratory and those found positive, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing.
It added that further treatment and management of COVID patients as per the protocol of the state government is to be followed.
As per the circular, at the district and Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) level, tele-monitoring of international passengers (from Japan and Thailand) should be done through call centers in their respective districts for 14 days.
