Karnataka saint found dead in his monastery, suicide note found

Police have recovered his alleged suicide note and investigation is on

Belagavi:

A Lingayat saint in Karnataka was found dead at his monastery in Belagavi district this morning, officials have said.

He said that Basava Siddalinga Swami, the seer of Sri Guru Madiwaleshwar Math, was found hanging in his quarters by his followers and attendants.

Police have recovered his alleged suicide note and investigation is on to ascertain the cause of his death. The contents of the note are not yet known.

Sources say that the seer was reportedly upset over a video in which two women were seen discussing alleged cases of sexual harassment in some monasteries in Karnataka.

The women had also mentioned his name in the video.

Earlier this month, Murugha Math chief Shivamurthy Sharanaru was arrested for sexually assaulting two minor girls and sent to 14-day judicial custody. Both the girls have accused him of sexually abusing her over the years.

He was arrested after protests by civil society members and various organizations in Chitradurga and Mysore districts of Karnataka.
