Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said Rs 500 crore will be released for repair of roads and bridges damaged due to incessant rains and floods in various parts of the state and directions have been issued for immediate disbursement of compensation for those whose houses . have been damaged.

Rs 500 crore will be released for repair of damaged roads and bridges, Rs 1 lakh (first installment) will be released immediately to those whose houses have been completely damaged and those whose houses have been partially damaged. Directions have also been given to release funds for Damaged,” Mr Bommai said.

Talking to reporters, he said that crop damage survey is being done on war footing and compensation will be released as soon as the report is uploaded on the designated app.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister will visit rain-hit parts of Kolar district and Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district.

Responding to a question, he said the Election Commission has allowed ministers of concerned departments and the chief minister to travel across the state to take stock of the damage caused by the rains and monitor relief measures.

The Chief Minister on Sunday said that in view of the Legislative Council elections on December 10 and the model code of conduct coming into force, he has sought permission from the Election Commission to allow ministers to visit rain-hit districts to oversee relief work. ,

He had chaired a meeting with senior ministers and officials last night to review the devastation caused by the rains and the relief measures taken by the government.

A total of 24 people have died due to rains and floods across the state since the beginning of this month till Sunday evening, officials of the Karnataka Disaster Management Authority said.

As per the preliminary loss and damage estimated by the authority since November 1, 658 houses have been completely damaged, while 8,495 houses have been partially damaged.

While an estimated 191 animals have lost their lives, over 4 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged, of them 3,79,501 hectares are agricultural crops and 30,114 hectares are horticultural crops.

The data shared by the officials also revealed that 2,203 km of roads have been damaged.

Damage to other infrastructure as of Sunday evening included 1,225 schools, 39 primary health centres, 1,674 electric poles and 278 electrical transformers.
