BJP President JP Nadda held a meeting with senior leaders of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday. Sources said the purpose of the meeting, held at 11 Ashok Road, the old BJP headquarters, was to take stock of the BJP’s preparations for the assembly elections to be held in Madhya Pradesh next year.

Besides Chouhan, the meeting was attended by BJP state president VD Sharma, senior minister in the state government Narottam Mishra and party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya. BJP’s state election in-charge Muralidhar Rao and party’s national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh were also present in the meeting. In the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP narrowly lost and the Congress formed the government.

But the subsequent defections in the Congress led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, who along with his supporters joined the BJP, again brought the saffron party back to power in the state. Nadda is holding a meeting with the leaders of the states where elections are to be held next year.

Earlier this month, he had a similar meeting with BJP leaders from Rajasthan, including former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
