The opposition was protesting after LDF MLAs H Salam and Sachin Dev, along with security personnel, allegedly attacked some opposition legislators outside the Speaker’s office on March 15.

The proceedings of the Kerala Assembly were adjourned for the day amid protests by the UDF. After this the opposition was protesting LDF MLAs H Salam and Sachin Dev along with security personnel allegedly attacked some opposition legislators outside the Speaker’s office on March 15.

The opposition said that four MLAs of the opposition were injured in this incident. The MLAs were protesting outside the Speaker’s office on March 15 alleging that the Speaker was violating the rights of the opposition. The opposition wanted to give an adjournment motion on women’s safety and was not allowed.

The opposition sat on a dharna outside the speaker’s office. Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan alleged that LDF MLAs H Salam and Sachin Dev along with security personnel assaulted the opposition legislators.

Ahead of today’s session, the Speaker had called an all-party meeting of the ruling and opposition fronts. According to sources, the meeting saw a war of words between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Leader of the Opposition and did not yield any results.

As soon as the session started, the Leader of the Opposition said that he demanded that action should be taken against both the MLAs and the security guards. This led to protests within the assembly and the assembly was adjourned for the day.

Satheesan said that the four UDF MLAs who were on the managing committee of Sabha TV would resign. “Sabha TV is only for the ruling party. They are not showing our opposition in the assembly. Even when the Leader of the Opposition was speaking in the Assembly, he was showing the faces of the ministers. Despite our repeated requests to allow media inside the assembly, the government is not taking any action.”

Satheesan also said that during the all-party meeting the CM said that all adjournment motions cannot be accepted and screening will take place. The Leader of the Opposition said that this was unacceptable and they wanted their rights for an adjournment motion and it was for the Speaker and not the Chief Minister to decide.
