Kerala Chicken Project Expansion Plans in Wayanad

District Collector A. In a meeting of senior officers of various departments under the chairmanship of Geeta, it was decided to coordinate various departments for the expansion of Kerala Chicken Project being implemented under Brahmagiri Development Society in the district.

It decided to collect the applications for the project at the gram panchayat level. Kerala Bank has earmarked a loan of Rs 51 crore for setting up 2,000 poultry farms in Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad districts under the project.

The bank will provide Rs 1.5 lakh each to set up 1,000 poultry farms, each with 1,000 chickens, at an interest rate of 7.5%. A loan of ₹3 lakh will be provided for setting up 700 poultry farms with 2,000 chickens each at 7% interest rate and ₹5 lakh each for setting up 300 farms with 3,000 chickens at 8.5% interest rate.

Under the Kisan Credit Card scheme, an incentive amount of 3% will be provided to the poultry farmers who repay the loan on time, up to a loan of up to ₹ 3 lakh.

It was also decided in the meeting to submit a proposal to the District Planning Committee for permission to set up poultry farms using the services of workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and to provide subsidy to eligible poultry farmers.
