As the much-awaited Football FIFA World Cup 2022 is just a few weeks away, the Kerala government is planning to provide basic football training to one lakh students across the state.

Official sources here said that a special program named ‘One Million Goal’ will be jointly organized by the State Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Sports Council.

He said that 10 days of football training would be given under the scheme to the students in the age group of 10-12 years, vocational training would be continued for those who excel in basic training.

Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman announced the 10-day training program at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The minister said that from November 11, 100 children will be given basic football training at 1,000 centers for 10 days.

The former Santosh Trophy player, who was selected as the “One Million Goal” ambassador, will lead the training program in each district.

The anti-drug campaign “Say no to drugs” launched by the state government with an aim to raise the healthy generation will be given maximum publicity with one million target program.

The event is being organized in collaboration with local bodies, educational institutions and sports organisations, a statement quoted the minister as saying.
