A sessions court in Kerala on Wednesday sentenced the victim’s husband to life imprisonment for killing his wife with a cobra in the Uthra murder case.

On October 11, the court had convicted husband Suraj S Kumar of murder, poisoning, destruction of evidence and attempt to murder. Using a wiper.

Additional Sessions Judge-VI Manoj M, who pronounced the sentence, said the case is rarest of all, but considering the age of the convict – 28 years – he decided to give him life imprisonment instead of death, a lawyer present in the court said. .

The lawyer also said that the court sentenced Kumar to life imprisonment for the offense of attempt to murder, 10 years for poisoning and seven years for destruction of evidence.

The lawyer said that the court also imposed a total fine of Rs 5.85 lakh on the convict.

Sooraj had killed his wife Uthra in May last year by biting a cobra in her sleep.
