Kerala rains: IMD declares red alert for four districts

The IMD has issued a red alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode districts. These regions will likely receive heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

According to a weather issued by IMD at 1 p.m. on Tuesday (May 20, 2025), three districts – Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad – have been put on Orange alert for the day.

A yellow has been issued for five districts – Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki for the day.

Caution advised

The government has instructed the district administrations to be prepared to meet any eventuality.

It has urged people living in rugged areas and on riversides to exercise caution and avoid night travel.

Tidal surges

Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of tidal surges in coastal districts in Kerala.
