KFC India plans to open 20 eco-friendly restaurants in 2022

Fast-food chain KFC India has unveiled an initiative ‘KFCincious’, which aims to set up ‘sustainable restaurants’ by harnessing energy efficiency and using eco-friendly ingredients, the company said on Sunday.
The company said that the first such permanent restaurant has been set up at Thyagaraya Nagar (T Nagar) in the city.
“The first restaurant for the quick service restaurant industry in the country is located at Thyagarayanagar (T Nagar), Chennai,” a company statement said.
“The efforts of the KFConscious Initiative align with KFC’s global commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46 percent by 2030. The company said the brand aims to launch 20 more such restaurants by 2022, striving to enable consumers to enjoy their favorite KFC dishes in a more responsible manner.

According to company officials, the solar panels in restaurants in Chennai will help in saving around 18,000 units of electricity every year. At the same time, 100% of the water collected from the RO system is used for flushing in the washroom.
The use of natural and LED lighting ensures energy efficiency, while the energy management system in the kitchen ensures optimum use of electricity.
It said that the company has also applied eco-friendly materials like local clay tiles for wall finishing.
