Kia’s experiment shows that listening to classical music helps keep the driver calm which also affects the range of the vehicle.
The EV6 was used for the experiment on a fixed 29 km route
Kia Motors has revealed in a fascinating study that the music heard by the driver is directly related to the range available to an electric vehicle. The Korean automaker revealed that it conducted an experiment in which drivers completed a certain route with EV6s while listening to Beethoven’s iconic “Symphony No. 9” as well as The Weeknd’s smash hit “Blinding Lights”. The experiment was supervised by Dr. Duncan Williams, a lecturer in the University of Salford’s School of Science, Engineering and the Environment. He is an expert in acoustics and acoustics.
“Playlists featuring ambient classical pieces and famous symphonic-form compositions from the likes of Beethoven can help drivers retain battery power better than other types of music genres and artists, including The Weeknd, Kanye West and Adele. Up-tempo pop, hip-hop, and even soul ballad pop were also found to influence the EV range as these styles have an influence in influencing driver behavior and driving style,” Dr. Duncan Williams revealed.
Kia EV6 will also be launched in India this summer
For the experiment, two identical EV6s where the driver had to drive from a distance of 29 km. The driver was equipped with a device that tracks all their biometric measures. Testing found that the driver’s average heart rate was 111 bhp while listening to Beethoven, while it jumped to 171 bpm when listening to The Weeknd.

“What we found from just two days of testing was that music can actually have a dramatic effect on the real-world driving range of an electric vehicle. Different songs resulted in different electrodermal activity and blood counts for each participant.” Increase the volume. In short: if you want to go further, listen to Beethoven and other relaxing classical music; if you’re not worried about dropping the range a little too quickly, by all means, go a little more high tempo Find the track,” Dr Williams concluded.
