Know your candidates: Orai assembly seat candidates in 2022 elections

Orai assembly seat will go to polls in the third phase of Uttar Pradesh elections 2022 along with 58 other constituencies on February 20. The counting of votes for the results of the Orai assembly elections will be held on March 10.

Orai is one of the five assembly constituencies of Jalaun Lok Sabha constituency. This assembly seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes. It is classified as a semi-urban assembly seat, and is in the water-scarce Bundelkhand region of the state.

BJP won this seat in 2017 assembly elections, in which sitting MLA Gauri Shankar defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Mahendra Singh by a margin of 78,879 votes and 29.75 per cent.

The saffron party has once again fielded Shankar, who is the sitting MLA. He has three criminal cases registered against him. A total of 13 candidates are in the fray from the Orai assembly seat.

Apart from the sitting BJP MLA, another candidate has two criminal cases registered against him. Congress and AAP have fielded women candidates, both of whom are post graduates. There is also another woman candidate in the alliance, who is contesting as an independent. Four of the 13 are ‘crorepati’ candidates, including candidates from Congress, SP and Bahujan Samaj Party and one more.

Gauri Shankar, Bharatiya Janata Party

Shankar is once again a BJP candidate, winning the 2017 assembly elections by a margin of over 70,000 votes. In his election affidavit, the 56-year-old has declared three criminal cases. Class 10 pass-outs have mentioned income from shoplifting business. He has total assets of Rs 79.1 lakh, of which Rs 45.1 lakh is movable and Rs 34 lakh is immovable. He has liabilities of Rs 4.7 lakh and own income of Rs 4.5 lakh.

Urmila Devi Sonkar Khabri, Indian National Congress

Urmila Devi, 61, a senior citizen, is one of the three women candidates for the Orai assembly seat. In his election affidavit, he has mentioned income from his pension and has not declared any criminal case. The postgraduate is also one of the four ‘crorepati’ candidates and owns assets worth Rs 3.9 crore with liabilities of Rs 39.8 lakh. Urmila Devi has movable assets of Rs 84.2 lakh and immovable assets of Rs 3.1 crore. His own income is Rs 3.5 lakh and total income is Rs 11.3 lakh.

Dayashankar Verma, Samajwadi Party

Verma is one of the three candidates above the age of 70 from the Orai seat. The 71-year-old has mentioned income by way of salary and pension and has no criminal case against him. The class 10 pass-out is a ‘crorepati’ candidate and has a net worth of Rs 3.4 crores, with liabilities of Rs 65 lakhs. Verma has movable assets worth Rs 2.2 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 1.3 crore. His own income is Rs 10.1 lakh and total income is Rs 17.9 lakh.

Satyendra Pratap, Bahujan Samaj Party

Pratap has not declared any criminal case against him and has mentioned income from agriculture and business in his election affidavit. The 52-year-old, a Class 12 pass-out and a ‘crorepati’ candidate, has a net worth of Rs 2.2 crore, with liabilities of Rs 30 lakh. His movable assets are Rs 95.9 lakh and immovable assets are Rs 1.2 crore. He has declared his own income of Rs.4.9 lakh.

Deepshikha, Aam Aadmi Party

At 27, she is the youngest candidate from Orai. Deepshikha is a housewife and as per her election affidavit, she is a post graduate and has not declared any criminal case. The postgraduate has total assets of Rs 22.5 lakh, out of which Rs 2.5 lakh are movable and Rs 20 lakh are immovable. He has not declared any liability or income himself.

Jamunadas, Bahujan Mukti Party

Jamunadas is an agriculturist by profession and has not declared any criminal case. In his election affidavit, the 66-year-old has total assets of Rs 20.8 lakh, of which Rs 6.8 lakh is movable and Rs 14 lakh is immovable. Class 8 pass-outs have not declared any liability or self income.

Balak Ram, Jan Adhikar Party

Balak Ram has mentioned income from pension, agriculture and business and has no criminal record. According to the election affidavit, the 59-year-old graduate has total assets of Rs 60.4 lakh, of which Rs 3.4 lakh are movable and Rs 57 lakh are immovable. Balak Ram has declared a liability of Rs 2.5 lakh. Both his own and total income is Rs 7 lakh.

CH Lachhiram, National Disabled Party

Another ‘crorepati’ candidate, Lachhiram is an agriculturist and has no criminal case against him. According to the election affidavit, the 76-year-old, is a Class 8 pass-out and owns a total assets of Rs 1.1 crore. He has movable assets worth Rs 6.6 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 1 crore. It does not have liabilities or income itself.

Sitaram Verma, Swatantra Janata Raj Party

Verma has declared agriculture as income and has not declared any criminal case. 79 years old post graduate. He has total assets of Rs 23.7 lakh, with no liabilities. His movable assets are Rs 8.7 lakh and immovable assets are Rs 15 lakh. Varman has no self-income.

Sushil Kumar, Desh Shakti Party

Sushil Kumar has mentioned labor as his income and has declared two criminal cases in his election affidavit. The 29-year-old, a Class 10 pass-out, has assets worth Rs 11.4 lakh, of which Rs 6.4 lakh is movable and Rs 5 lakh is immovable. He has not declared any liability or income himself.

Chandrabhan, Independent

Chandrabhan is involved in tempo business and has not declared any criminal case in his election affidavit. The 53-year-old, is a Class 8 pass-out and owns a net worth of Rs 10.3 lakh, with no liabilities. His movable assets are Rs 2 lakh and immovable assets are Rs 8.2 lakh. He has not declared self-income.

Dal Singh, Independent

Dal Singh has declared labor as his profession and has not declared any criminal case in his election affidavit. The 44-year-old is a graduate and owns a net worth of Rs 16.6 lakh with no liabilities. He has movable assets worth Rs 6.6 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 10 lakh. He has not declared self-income.

Premlata Verma, Independent

Verma is a housewife and contract worker and has not declared any criminal record in her election affidavit. The 31-year-old is a graduate professional and has a net worth of Rs 22.4 lakh. His liability is Rs 20,000. His movable assets are worth Rs 7.4 lakh and immovable assets are worth Rs 15 lakh. He has not declared any self-income.
