Kohli surprised by Shreyas Iyer becoming ‘Muttiah Muralitharan’

India experimented with a number of bowlers, including Shreyas Iyer, on a day when India completed a 3–0 whitewash in Thiruvananthapuram, beating Sri Lanka by 317 runs.

With Sri Lanka struggling at 55/8 in their chase of a tough target of 391, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Shreyas Iyer.

Instead of his wrists, the 28-year-old opted to roll his fingers and unleash the vicious spin straight away. Thereafter, the ball pitched onto the off stump and generated a good amount of turn. It beat Sri Lankan batsman Lahiru Kumara and then went into the hands of wicketkeeper KL Rahul.

Indian batsman Virat Kohli was taken aback by the sudden change in Shreyas Iyer’s bowling action. He could not help but hide his excitement by covering his mouth with his hands.

Earlier on January 15, India beat Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third ODI to clinch the ODI series 3-0 against the Asian champions. The margin of victory is the largest in the history of men’s One Day International cricket.

Virat Kohli thrashed Sri Lankan bowlers and inched closer to some of the best records in the world of cricket. Kohli made a mammoth contribution of 166 off 110 balls, combined with another century by Shubman Gill, as India’s final score reached 390/5.
