MANGALURU: Chartered accountant and philanthropist Nandgopal Shenoy has been unanimously elected as the chairman world konkani center, Mangaluru, for the period 2021-2024.
Also, the following other office bearers took charge for the Board of Trustees on Thursday Konkani Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Kudpi Jagdish Shenoy (Vice President), Gilbert D’Souza (Vice President), Dr. Kiran Budkule (Vice President), Bhas Ani Culture Foundation popularly known as BR Bhat (Treasurer), Giridhar Kamath (Secretary), Sneha V. Shenoy (Joint) Secretary) and Dr. Kasturi Mohan Pai, KB Kharvi, Murlidhar V. Prabhu, U.K. Shakuntala R. Kinney, Ramesh Paikannaur, Melvin Eugene Rodrigues, D. Ramesh Naik, Narayan Naik, C. Vathika Kamath and Venkatesh Prabhu Elected as trustee. They were elected after the Annual General Meeting of establishment Held here on Thursday.
Keeping in view the remarkable service rendered by the Founder and outgoing Chairman Basti Vaman Shenoy, the Board of Trustees requested him to continue to be a guiding source as the Co-Chairman of the Foundation. The Board also thanked Emeritus Chairman RV Deshpande and Chairman Dr. P. Dayanand Pai and requested them to continue in their positions.
Sixteen newly elected trustees joined the board which includes eminent Patron Trustees like P Satish Pai, TV Mohandas Pai, Dr Ranjan Pai, KV Kamath, Grace Pinto, Ramdas Kamath U, Pradeep G Pai, Giselle D Mehta, William D’Souza. Gokulnath Prabhu, Ullas Kamati, Ronald Colaco, and others.
Established in 1996 by Basti Vaman Shenoy, the establishment established the Vishwa Konkani Center in 2009. Since then it has been successful in bringing Konkani speaking people of different castes and religions under one umbrella to preserve the Konkani language and culture.
As part of his vision, Mohandas Pai has initiated several programs to empower the Konkani community, one of them being the World Konkani Scholarship Program, which has awarded over 26,000 scholarships over the past ten years under the leadership of Ramdas Kamath U, who has contributed to 28 crore is more than Rs. Vishwa Konkani Kendra has taken several initiatives under its AMRUT Konkani programme, contributing to the development of Konkani language, culture and community as this year marks the 75th year of India’s independence.
