Demanding the dismissal and arrest of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has warned the Center and the Uttar Pradesh government of a phased protest if the demands are not met till date. (11 October). Ashish Mishra, who was arrested late on Saturday, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days and kept under COVID quarantine at the district jail in Lakhimpur Kheri. Eight people were killed in the Lakhimpur violence, which farmers said was allegedly hit by a vehicle carrying BJP workers. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday expressed regret over the death of farmers in the incident, while ruling allies have called for a state-wide bandh today. Several business organizations in Pune have supported the Maharashtra bandh on Monday.
