A day after a lawyer was shot dead at a district court in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, lawyers on Tuesday demanded enhanced security in the court premises and decided that people would be allowed inside only after checking their identity cards. .

A condolence meeting was also organized for Bhupendra Singh (58), who was shot dead on Monday by a fellow lawyer Suresh Gupta over an old enmity.

According to the police, Mr Gupta was angry with Mr Singh as he had filed over two dozen cases against him.

Police had said that Mr Singh of Jalalabad tehsil had gone to the third floor office of ACJM-I of the district court to meet a clerk in connection with a case, when gunshots were heard and he was found dead, police said. Said.

Anit Trivedi, general secretary of the Central Bar Association Shahjahanpur, said that a condolence meeting was organized for Singh. It was decided to allow visitors to enter the court premises only after checking their identity cards.

He said that it is often seen that criminals enter the courts wearing black coats.

He said that there was also a demand to provide more security to the advocates.

Suresh Gupta has been arrested for the murder of Bhupendra Singh. According to the police, his two sons Gaurav and Ankit have also been accused in this case.
