Leading in the disposal of Madras High Court cases in the country: CJ

Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari said that the Madras High Court is a leader in the disposal of cases in the country. He added that even during the COVID-19 pandemic it recorded a record settlement rate.

The Chief Justice was speaking at the 18th anniversary celebrations of the Madurai Bench and the 17th anniversary celebrations of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court Bar Association (MMBA).

The Chief Justice said he was in a dilemma whether to come to Madurai or stay in Chennai as he was invited for the inauguration of the Chess Olympiad. However, he decided to come to Madurai to attend the farewell of the High Court judge.

He said that he took a cautious decision to come to Madurai to attend the farewell of the judge in keeping with tradition as what ultimately should have happened was the institution.

He urged the junior advocates to attend the lecture series being organized by the bar associations in the High Court as it will deal with legal subjects and practical issues, and juniors can benefit from the experience of the seniors.

The Madurai bench had performed exceptionally well in the disposal of pending cases. Stating that it is not only because of the judges but also because of the contribution of the members of the bar, he said that the confidence of the litigants can be gained through speedy disposal of cases.

Madurai Bench Administrative Judge Justice PN Prakash said that he was able to dispose of the cases expeditiously here because of the efforts of the lawyers.

Praising the advocates practicing in Madurai, he said they quickly came to the point and would accept it even if the verdict was against them.

He presented a lecture on ‘Law, Courts and Justice – from the Spectators Gallery’ at the event. MMBA President S. Srinivas Raghavan welcomed the gathering and MMBA Secretary KP Narayan Kumar proposed vote of thanks.

The event featured a recorded video played by former High Court judges sharing their experiences, which was attended by judges, advocates and court staff.
