John Cena, the undisputed WWE champion, came up with a simple but impactful advice for couples planning their next date-night meet-up. The legendary wrestler offered date night advice for couples during the recent Amazon upfronts to promote his new film ‘Heads of State’. Speaking to ‘Us Weekly’, Cena brought his dating experience to the fore and suggested, “Put your f’n phone at home.”

For Cena, taking the phone on a date could result in a “scattered” mind that disturbs the interaction with the other person. The 48-year-old advised couples to be at their most attentive best when dating each other and said one should rather request a short break from their partner instead of not truly being there and continuing the conversation halfheartedly.

“Honestly, it could be so simple. Put your f’n phone at home. Not in your pocket, I don’t even bring it with me. You only need one person to dial 911, so only one phone, that way we’re both present. And when you’re there, you’re there. If your mind is scattered, and you’re not ready yet, take a 5-minute (break), tell the person you’re with, like ‘man, I don’t know if I’m in the headspace to be here’, but when you’re there, you’re there,” Cena said.

Cena, who married back in 2020, met his wife Shay Shariatzadeh for the first time in Canada during the filming of his previous on-screen project ‘Playing with Fire’ before the two started dating each other as the wrestling giant split up with his ex-girlfriend and WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella.

Upon being asked during the interview about ‘Heads of State’ and whether he ever contested for the American President’s role in real life, Cena came up with an amusing response. “I know that’s going to be a question on a lot of people’s minds…this is a movie. I am playing a role in a buddy action comedy. I just happen to wear a suit and say my character is in the Oval Office. I think that is about as far as we can take that,” he said. Cena’s new film premieres on Amazon Prime this July 2nd.
