calm the tension
Hardly a day goes by when hate speeches and acts of communal violence are not reported in any part of our country or in any other part. If this word can be used, we cannot be immune from ‘interreligious violence’. We have to reject it and address the situation before breaking the social bonds. The country should not be torn apart by civil strife.
When religious processions are taken out, it is wise to keep them free from religious hysteria. The purpose of religious processions should be to celebrate and spread the message of love rather than inciting other religious communities.
It can be seen that those who mix religion with politics create and increase the atmosphere of communal tension.

judicial retirement
The contents of the news report, “Retirement spree in SC may impact efforts to reduce pendency” (p. 1, April 18), are grim. Naturally, the effect would also be detrimental to the redressal of their grievances to the people. As is the prime minister’s habit of taking out-of-the-box decisions, this is a fitting case for doing so. They should try to take the appointment of Supreme Court judges seriously.
