mental health

It is true that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the mental health problem in the country, which has also led to a significant increase in the number of depression cases. Mental health issues have long been equated with psychiatric disorders (editorial page, “Thoughts for psychiatric caregivers too”, June 22). One way forward is to start a sustained conversation on mental health in language that is understandable – that is ‘inclusive’. Mental health issues, if experienced by any individual, need to be mainstreamed.

Perhaps, social reforms and national level campaigns on mental health can go a long way in addressing this topic.

unreserved train travel

The plan for better travel facilities for passengers in unreserved coaches is encouraging.

Unreserved travel in cramped coaches makes traveling a frustrating struggle, especially when there are security and hygiene issues. The good thing is that the passengers in this segment will be ‘treated’ in a much better and respectful manner.

But the elephant in the crowded room still needs to be addressed in order to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all.

Considering that travel in unreserved coaches enjoys a great deal of patronage, especially when in certain circumstances it becomes necessary to travel in general coaches, provision of economical food and drink near these coaches and other steps to make the journey more comfortable A new step by Indian Railways. A dreadful journey may no longer be a nightmare.
