Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey received the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal from the President

President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday awarded the ‘Uttam Yudh Seva Medal’ (UYSM) to Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey.

Lt Gen Devendra Pratap Pandey was awarded the ‘Uttam Yudh Seva Medal’ (UYSM) on Tuesday in recognition of his tenure as the General-Officer-Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. President Ram Nath Kovind presented him with a medal and a scroll at the decoration ceremony in New Delhi.

During the ceremony, President Ram Nath Kovind said that Lt Gen DP Pandey infused a humanitarian approach in the kinetic and non-kinetic domains, which ensured peace and significantly reduced the parameters of violence. “Working in perfect harmony and synergy with other security forces, JK Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), intelligence agencies and in coordination with the civil administration, he contributed in maintaining peace in the Valley. There has been no loss of civilian life except those who were mercilessly targeted by terrorists,” he continued.

He also said that Lt Gen DP Pandey has improved civil-army relations through his regular interactions with common citizens, social and religious leaders and policy makers. “GoC’s free and frank interactions with the local people, whether it is on the streets of Shopian on the eve of Diwali, or at Qazigund railway station and on many other occasions, brought them many warm relations,” he said.
