look | Varanasi celebrated Dev Deepawali

Every year during Kartik Purnima, Varanasi witnesses a fascinating spectacle of light celebrating Dev Deepawali.

This year the skyline of the city was filled with colorful hot air balloons along with lamps.

The Uttar Pradesh government organized a hot air balloon festival which coincided with the Dev Deepawali celebrations.

Hot air balloons flew over the river bank of the Ganges, as devotees in ghats and boats watched in awe.

Inside the balloons people were able to get a bird’s eye view of the city.

As the sun set, the city and the Ganges came to light in the background of the full moon.

12 lakh earthen lamps were lit at the ghats of Varanasi

Dev Deepawali is celebrated fifteen days after Diwali across the country.

As the name suggests, it is believed that on this day, Hindu deities descend to earth to bathe in the Ganges.
