Love the midnight binge? It can lead to weight gain: Study

Are you someone who goes to the kitchen late at night in search of some snacks or sweets? If yes, then let us tell you, this midnight craving is one of the major reasons for weight gain. You heard us A recent study from the Harvard School of Medicine found that eating late leads to higher caloric intake, fewer calories burned and molecular changes in adipose tissue. These factors further increase the risk of obesity. The researchers, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, found that “what we eat significantly affects our energy expenditure, appetite and molecular pathways in adipose tissue.”

Researchers analyzed 16 people for this study, with a body mass index in the range of overweight or obese. Each participant completed two laboratory protocols—one with a strictly prescribed initial feeding schedule, and the other with identical meals, scheduled approximately four hours later each day.

“In the last two to three weeks before starting each of the in-laboratory protocols, participants maintained a fixed sleep and wake schedule, and in the last three days before entering the laboratory, they followed the same diet and diet at home. The program was strictly followed.” Read further study.

The results showed that eating later had a profound effect on appetite and appetite, affecting our desire to eat. The findings further establish the underlying correlation between physiological and molecular mechanisms and late eating habits, leading to an increased risk of obesity.

Keeping the above study in mind, we say, it is always better to examine what we eat and when to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle.
