Months after the “Christmas Star” or Great Coincidence, when the Solar System’s two largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn, appeared closest to each other in December, the Moon will be with Saturn tonight at 02.33 GMT and Jupiter. Tomorrow.

The word conjunction is derived from the Latin word which means to join. It is referred to as a phenomenon when two or more objects come closer or appear near each other in the sky.

According to a report in India Today, during the first conjunction tonight, the Moon and Saturn will be aligned with each other and the Moon will pass three degrees 45 inches to the south of the ringed planet.

According to astronomers, while Saturn will appear faint in the night sky, it can be seen with binoculars.

After tonight’s conjunction, Jupiter will appear next to the Moon in the east-northeast sky after midnight tomorrow.

Last year’s great coincidence was a rare opportunity to see the two planets of the Solar System coming closer just before Christmas 2020. The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Delhi had arranged for the public to view the celestial phenomenon on a registration basis. The Skywatch event began on December 20 and went on till December 22, giving people a chance to watch the combination while observing social distancing and other COVID-19 norms. The tamasha was also broadcast online.

The conjunction of planets is also called Christmas star. Adding a little biblical theme to the event, some claimed that the meeting of similar planets created the Great Star of Bethlehem which led the biblical Magi, also known as the Three Wise Men, to the Christ Child. This idea was also proposed by the German astronomer Johannes Kepler in the 17th century.
