Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul was extremely disappointed with his team’s batsmen after Sanju Samson’s massive 24-run defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 15. After being asked to chase down 179, LSG could barely put out the Royals’ bowlers under pressure and ended up with 154/8.

The Lucknow team also suffered back-to-back defeats, going down to Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) on the second night. The Super Giants are yet to qualify for the playoffs as there is one game left in the league stage. Rahul clearly said that his batting needs to improve in the upcoming matches.

holding our nerve

“It was an achievable target, a good pitch. The new ball was helping the bowlers. We were good with the ball; The batting team has not performed together in some matches. We have to go back and get better. The pitch in Pune was tough,” Rahul said after the match.

“It was a better pitch. First there was seam movement and they bowled well. Losing two wickets was bad, we’ve lost matches before. So we have to find ways to get off to a good start when there’s movement with the ball.

“The aim is to execute what we want. Hold on to our nerves and give ourselves a chance to play the new ball or play a good spell. There is often enough time to build up and grow from there,” he said.

After the loss, the Super Giants slipped to the third spot on the points table, while the Royals moved up to the second spot. Rahul’s team will next face Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, May 18 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
