Ludhiana government schools to train girls in Israeli martial art ‘Krav Maga’ for self-defense

Deputy Commissioner Surbhi Malik said that the schoolgirls would be able to easily apply what they learned in the program to protect themselves from any danger.

Ludhiana Administration launched a self-defense training program to empower girl students in the district on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8. The program launched by Deputy Commissioner Surbhi Malik will focus on teaching Krav Maga, a type of Israeli martial art. To the girl students of all government schools here.

This programme, which will be fully operational after the end of the examination session, can be extended to private schools also on request. According to a report in The Indian Express, Assistant Commissioner Aparna MB (under-training IAS) will have a key role in this initiative. A certified Krav Maga instructor, Aparna MB, and her team will teach the schoolgirls basic block techniques.

At the launch event, Malik said that the basic self-defense techniques taught in Krav Maga were effective and practical. She said that the girl students would be able to easily apply what they learned in the program to save themselves from any danger. Malik expressed her hope that the ability to protect herself would make girls feel empowered and allow them to be self-reliant with regard to their own safety.

Krav Maga, developed by the Israeli Defense Forces, is known for its efficiency and approach focused on real-world situations. Picking up the best techniques from a variety of fighting styles, such as aikido, street fighting and boxing, and modifying them to increase quick learning ability has always been a cornerstone of this fighting form. One can learn the basics of Krav Maga in a few months and achieve an advanced level (black belt) in three years or more.

Basic Education Department, Uttar Pradesh has also announced self defense training On this occasion, girl students in 1,000 schools across the state of International Women’s Day. A total of 2,33,035 girl students are receiving this training through sports coaches. Self-defense training is being imparted to girl students by sports coaches in one thousand schools of the state. And 2,33,035 girl students have been trained through it,” said the department.
