Ludhiana: A huge Fire Broken in 66 kV power grid Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Friday evening.
fire engines RaikotJagraon, Ludhiana, Barnala and Air Force Station Halwara were assigned the task of controlling the fire.
A sudden explosion took place in one transformer and two more transformers were about to come in danger but firefighters saved two transformers from burning completely. Power supply was affected in the surrounding areas.
The fire broke out around 4.30 pm and the fire brigade was informed about the incident.
Further fighters claimed that the flames were so strong and intense that it was difficult to operate there. However, with great difficulty they were able to douse the fire and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the grid. The fire was brought under control in about two hours.
Sub Fire Officer Satinder Pal Virk said, “We used foam to douse the fire and at least 2.25 liters of foam was used to douse the fire completely. But the temperature was so high that the angels melted into the fire.”
He said that it is difficult to say anything about the exact cause of the fire but it could be due to overheating of the transformer which is filled with oil.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Engineer Operations Sub Urban Circle Ludhiana Anil Kumar said, “The reason behind the fire will be investigated later as first we are restoring power supply in the affected areas. We have restored the supply at Basian while Raikot will also be restored in the next few hours.
