Decision of joint venture to select Gujarat for the project which includes Semiconductor Fabrication Unit, Display Fabrication Unit and Semiconductor Assembling and Testing Unit. Maharashtra The political blame game has started in the state, in which the opposition has targeted Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government For missing a huge opportunity and Deputy CM Fadnavis blamed the then MVA government for not inviting Foxconn for two years while they were working on the deal with Gujarat.
While Shiv Sena’s Aaditya Thackeray said he was surprised to see that a project was “nearly finalised”, Fadnavis told TOI, “If at all there is to be blame, it is the earlier government which was To be blamed. Just a few days back our government has come.”
In August 2015, when the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was in power in Maharashtra, the state signed a memorandum of understanding with Foxconn to set up a $5 billion semiconductor unit in Talegaon, Pune. That MoU was canceled in 2020, when the MVA was in power, but talks were on to set up the plant.
Sources in Gandhinagar said Gujarat continued to woo Vedanta-Foxconn The project will be set up in Maharashtra even after the announcement of the MVA government. “Gujarat once again approached the company offering full support under the semiconductor policy. The officials met CM Bhupendra Patel, where the state offered all support, assuring that a dedicated team led by IAS officers would extend support at all levels. It fixed the deal for Gujarat,” said top officials close to the development.

Responding to a tweet by Vedanta CEO Anil Agarwal declaring Gujarat as the pick, former minister Aaditya Thackeray tweeted earlier in the day, “Although I am glad to see it in India, I am a little surprised to see it The new system was tweeting pictures and claimed to bring it to Maharashtra, but it seems that there was an intention/commitment to send it away from Maharashtra. Our Maha Vikas Aghadi government had brought it in the last phase. Then Industries Minister Subhash Desai MIDC and I held meetings to bring this. This semiconductor project for Maharashtra. For a project which is almost finalized, and a new government is claiming credit on it, only for the progress of our state. Shows a lack of commitment.”
Addressing a press, Aditya said, “90% of the MoUs signed by the MVA government were executed because people trusted the government. But now there is no conducive environment. Neither we nor anyone else. I have faith in this government. In this illegal, unconstitutional system, the real CM should tell us why this investment left our state. One lakh jobs were to be created and 90% of the conditions were fulfilled.”
Aditya said that he does not want to drag the company into politics and investments should be made in all states, but “the government should answer why they are not coming.”
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who is on a two-day visit to Moscow, told TOI, “This deal with Gujarat has been going on for two years and not even once did our previous government invite them. We were told that Gujarat has signed a We have given a good deal. Foxconn to Vedanta and they have decided to invest there. We immediately contacted them and offered a better package. They talked with us and we did a lot of talks. However, eventually they went to Gujarat. Decided to stick to my original decision.”
Fadnavis said he tried his best but “we are too late. I want to ask the opposition: Can they show any great investments? I can show many during 2014-2019 and they forget that in the past. In 23 years, we have been in power for 5 years and they have been in power for 18 years.”
Fadnavis said the state will hold talks with other players in the semiconductor business and try to bring them in. “I would also like to remind that the International Financial Services Center was conceived in 2005, but the then government did nothing and in 2013, Modiji got permission from the UPA government as CM and started GIFT City. [in Gujarat], They don’t act in time and then start a narrative that Gujarat is taking our project.” Further, in an attack on Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis said, “Nanar refinery was the biggest single investment ever made in India. , Who is responsible for premature abortion? It’s about what you try.”
