New Delhi: Supreme court asked on monday Maharashtra Will not take any decision on the petition seeking disqualification of the Speaker Shiv Sena MLA of Uddhav Thackeray faction.
The top court said the matter would require constitution of a bench and would take some time to be listed. The matter will not be listed tomorrow.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Uddhav camp, sought immediate listing of the petitions, saying the speaker has put up the disqualification matter for hearing tomorrow.
“The court had said that the petitions will be listed on July 11. I request that till the matter is decided here, there should be no disqualification,” Sibal said. He said that earlier the apex court had defended the rebel MLAs when they approached it. ,
The court asked the Solicitor General, appearing for the Governor of Maharashtra, to give his direction to the newly-appointed Speaker.
The Thackeray-led faction has also challenged the validity of the assembly proceedings held on July 3 and 4 in which a new Speaker of the House was elected and the subsequent floor test proceedings in which the Shinde-led coalition proved its majority. .
