Maharashtra sees huge spike in COVID cases; 40% jump compared to Monday

Maharashtra reported 711 new COVID cases on Tuesday, a sharp increase from 431 infections on Monday, the state health bulletin said. This is also the highest daily count in 3 months. The state also witnessed one death due to COVID on Tuesday.

With today’s count, the state’s total tally rose to 78,87,086, while active cases rose to 3,475. Mumbai alone reported 506 new cases, which is the highest in the entire state.

The number of 711 cases reported in a 24-hour period was the highest since February 27 when the state recorded 782 infections.

The bulletin also said that 366 people have recovered from the infection in the same period, taking their total to 77,35,751.

The bulletin said the only coronavirus-linked death was reported from Nashik district during the day. Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalna, Latur, Akola, Buldhana and Gondia districts currently have zero active cases.

Now, the COVID recovery rate in the state stands at 98.08%, while the death rate was 1.87%. In the last 24 hours, 22,493 new COVID-19 tests were conducted and the number of swab samples tested so far is 8,09,25,944.
