Mahashivaratri 2025 Special: Lord Shiva is revered as ‘the Destroyer’ among the supreme trinity in Hindu religion. Among the festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva, Mahashivratri is considered as the most auspicious. This year, Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26.
It is a significant religious festival for Hindus celebrated in a grand manner across India and abroad. Mahashivratri falls in the sacred month of Phalguna, as per the Hindu calendar. It is observed on the Chaturdashi Tithi, or the 14th day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month.

Devotees, who celebrate the festival not only pray and sing hymns but also observe a day-long fast. Many devotees also remain awake through the night and spend time at the temple chanting mantras, dancing and performing rituals.

Bhajans to Chant on Mahashivratri
- Ayi Shivratri Ayi: It is a bhajan by Lakhbir Singh Lakkha, and Raj Pal Sharma wrote the lyrics. The song talks about the devotees celebrating Shivaratri.
- Aayo re aayo shivaratri tyohaar: Tripthi Sakhya wrote the song, which commemorates the significance of the day that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married.
- Namo Namo: This popular song, sung by Amit Trivedi, is from the film Kedarnath. It draws attention to Lord Shiva’s power and how he supports his followers.
- Ajab hai teri maaya: Sukhwinder Singh wrote this song that lists all of Lord Shiva’s significant temples.
- Om Namah Shivaya: An enduring chant that is adored and respected by all.
