Mahindra Racing announced today that it will provide the powertrain to the Formula E World Championship winning team abt sportsline, The team returned to the all-electric racing series after a year and signed with Mahindra Racing as its first customer racing team.
Formula E teams will race similar-looking Gen3 machines, with manufacturers developing electric drivetrains, which will be supplied to private teams.
A pair of Mahindra Racing powered by ZF Gen3 cars will arrive abt Sportsline’s Kempten facility in October. In between, ABT engineers are working with the Indian team on software, set-up and simulation, as well as joining the team on test days.
ABT and Mahindra have a long history together and they jointly derailed the development of the series, says Thomas BirmaierCEO of ABT Sportsline. In addition, he added, “As a customer team, we want to bring together seven years of Formula E experience in over 80 races and over a decade in ABT Sportsline in partnership with Electric Mobility. Mahindra Racing is one of the founding teams of the world’s first all-electric street racing series. It now joins Nissan and Porsche in offering powertrains to Formula E private teams from next season, with Porsche backing Andretti and Nissan working with McLaren.
