However, the first SUV will be launched early next financial year and yes it will be the makeover XUV300. The XUV300 EV will be launched in Q3/Q4 of FY22-23, Mahindra confirmed during the announcement of Q3 financial results. Vijay Nakra, CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive said, “We have already announced our plans to bring electric cars to India. In the third or fourth quarter of FY23, we will launch the all-electric XUV300. We are in the process of announcing our portfolio plan with respect to EVs in India and we will tell you more about the same soon.”
The company is investing ₹3000 crore for electric vehicles and it is out of the total ₹13,000 crore that it plans to invest in the rest of the businesses which include automotive, agricultural equipment business. 4 SUVs from the company’s existing portfolio will transition to become all electric models, while 4 will be all new electric SUVs that will be introduced in the company’s portfolio.
The eXUV300 was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and we got a glimpse of what the car would look like. In fact, the company at the time said that the XUV300 electric was powered by an electric motor that drove the front wheels and probably produced 130 bhp. Power to the motor will be provided by a 40 kWh battery pack that is capable of delivering a range of over 300 km on a single charge.
