Major reshuffle in Gujarat cabinet before assembly elections

As part of its strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat in December this year, the BJP-led state government on Saturday night underwent a major reshuffle in the cabinet.

Rajendra Tiwari, who was at the center of controversies for suddenly visiting several offices of the departments and making sudden visits, has suddenly been snatched away from the command of the revenue department. Along with Rajendra, Purnesh Modi was dropped from the Ministry of Roads and Buildings. Now both the departments will be handled by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Both the ministers have been assigned to different ministries till the elections. As per the notification of the state government, Rajendra will hold the ministry portfolios of law and justice, disaster management, legislative and parliamentary affairs. While Purnesh Modi will be in charge of the ministries of transport, civil aviation, tourism and pilgrimage development.

Rajendra Trivedi was considered an important figure in the Gujarat government. He was the first person to take oath soon after Bhupendra Patel, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister.

Apart from the two key ministers, there was another reshuffle of roles and responsibilities in the cabinet as well. Harsh Ramesh Kumar Sanghvi has been given the charge of the Ministry of Revenue as the Minister of State (MoS), while Jagdish Ishwar Panchal has been given the charge of the Ministry of Roads and Buildings as the Minister of State (MoS). The handover of an important ministry like revenue has acted as a reward for Harsh Rameshkumar for his good performance so far. Same is the case with Jagdish Ishwar Panchal.

Rajendra Trivedi and Purnesh Modi are among the ten cabinet ministers of the Bhupendra Patel government. Patel replaced Vijay Rupani as the state’s chief minister last September after the entire cabinet resigned on the instructions of the BJP’s top leadership.
