Malayalam actor Vineeth Srinivasan, about his role in the Malayalam film ‘Mukundan Unni Associates’, says Mukundan Unni’s complete ‘unrelatedness’ attracted him.
It is interesting to hear multi-hyphenate film personality Vineet Srinivasan talking about how he talks about a role as an actor, especially since he is a director. “I share my suggestions at the pre-production stage when the script is being discussed. I have already spoken to the director. Once I am on the shoot, I don’t interfere. I don’t want to take away the autonomy of the director. I am a director and I would not have liked it if this happened to me. As they say, too many cooks spoil the broth! Don’t do the film if you don’t trust your director,” insisted the actor, whose Mukundan Unni AssociatesHits theaters today.
after the cameo Sarah’s And kunzeldho, we will see Vineet in a full-fledged role in the film directed by his longtime collaborator, editor and one-time assistant Abhinav Sundar Nayak. Does being a writer and director influence the way he chooses a script as an actor?
No, he says.
Instead of a director’s eye, he chooses a script based on the fundamental role of cinema as a means of entertainment. “Is it engaging? Am I enjoying it? These are the factors that I consider. The character or my role in the film comes much later,” the actor says over the phone. The eye probably comes from the fact that he is a writer who has directed five films, four of which were hits- Malarwadi Arts Club (2010), thattthin marayathu (2012), Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016), and Hridayam (2022) ,
Composed by Mukundan Unnik
Along with the catchy screenplay, he also liked Mukundan Unni’s unpredictability and completely unrelated character. He said, “I have done characters who ‘think’ and ‘behave’ like normal people. But with Mukundan Unni you never know what he is thinking or going to do next. There are many like him. There will be fewer people and that’s what drew me to him.”
Comparisons have been made based on the promotion of the film with Saul Goodman of the Netflix series better call Saul, He says the similarities end with the two struggling lawyers. “Someone pointed it out on Instagram, and we [the team] decided to play along. Saul is more human, unlike Mukundan Unni, who is narcissistic and not human. ,
The character’s form helps convey a sober threat. In the initial look, he sported a beard and hair differently, which changed at the location in Wayanad. The beard was replaced with a mustache and the original, black-framed glasses. “We thought this look was interesting and decided to go with it.”
As a result of his long association with Abhinav and conversations about cinema, Vineet had an idea of how the director would make the film. Her faith in the budding director is clear, “I have faith in him. The film has shaped much better than the script. We have done three rounds of dubbing depending on the size of the film. Since he is an editor, magic happens in the film!”

Director or Actor?
I enjoy directing a film, it gives me satisfaction and gives me an opportunity to contribute to the process of filmmaking as a director. As an actor, being able to work with other directors introduces me to different perspectives. Connecting with him and seeing his way contributes to my work as a director.
Next up as a director?
I am thinking something, but I have acting commitments for four-five films which I need to fulfill. After that I will sit to work on it.
The conversation moves towards a marathon promotion of the film in Kochi where he did 20 interviews in a day, among other activities. “I love promotion, especially after the creative process. When my first music album Coffee @ MG Road When we came out we visited the shops and got to hand out merchandise – CDs and DVDs. For Anandam [Vineeth was a producer of the 2016 film] The actor and director visited about 60 colleges. we did the same for Hridayam very. When you’ve worked hard, you also work to promote it. i have one thozhilali (activist) mentality. ,

as Hridayam comes up, he laughs at the suggestion that his movies like thattthin marayathu and now, HridayamA road map has been created for lovers. the latter, such as Thattatin… 10 years ago, which resonated with a cross-section of youth – from 15-16 year olds to college students and those in their 20s. The story and the relatability of the characters were key factors in its popularity, “It’s a coming-of-age film thing. People see it from the stage of life they are in and the character they are at.”
He continued, “Malayalees are romantics, contrary to the notion that we are serious. We love a good romance. [film]look at [the popularity of] aniyathipravu either niramo,

What is his formula for a winning script? “The films I make are straight from the heart. I create in my mind a parallel world of characters and their lives and ‘live’ there. The script of every film is a beautiful journey.”
At a time when film songs are rarely remembered, songs from his films are remembered years later. From ‘Thiruvavaniraavu…’ Jacobinte SwargarajyamFrom ‘Muthuchippi Poluru…’ thattthin marayathu Or from ‘Darshan…’ or ‘Manasse Manasse…’ Hridayam There are examples.
Vineet, who is also a singer, is inspired by the awareness that although not all films stand the test of time, songs do. “I want the songs of my films to be the best. Years later, people may not remember the film, but songs have a long shelf life. There are old songs that I love and sing, but I don’t know which movies they are from. That’s the thing about good songs!”
