Senior actor Mammootty has said that it is not right to ban anyone in the film industry.

“Nobody should be banned. Why should we deny someone’s livelihood? It is wrong to refuse someone to work. The actor was reacting to the Kerala Film Producers Association’s (KFPA) decision not to collaborate with actor Srinath Bhasi when he allegedly abused a female anchor during an interview for a digital channel.

Mr. Mammootty initially answered the question by saying that there was no restriction on Mr. Bhasi. “It’s been taken down. That’s what I learned,” he said.

Responding to the actor’s comments, a senior KFPA representative said that the organization would not like to respond to the views of a senior actor like Mammootty. “However, we would like to clarify that the association has not banned Mr Bhasi as we do not have the right to deny work to anyone,” he added.

The office-bearer said the decision was taken not to work with Mr Bhasi for the time being as the actor himself had admitted that he would be free from complaints lodged against him by some producers who had cast him in their productions. “He has agreed to complete the dubbing of four films, which have been delayed for some time due to his non-cooperation,” he said.

On why the association failed to take a similar position against actor-producer Vijay Babu, who was arrested for raping a young actor, the KFPA representative clarified that Mr Babu was not a member of the association. When asked whether their decision to not cooperate with Mr Bhasi has any relevance after mutual agreement between the actor and the complainant, the association said that its decision would be taken in view of the complaints filed against him by its members.
