Mamta reprimanded Mahua, saying – there should be no differences

Without mentioning any specific incident, TMC chief says matter has been probed

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a strong message to Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra on factionalism in the party, asserting that there should be no differences and the party will decide on candidates for the upcoming civic polls.

The development took place on Thursday during an administrative meeting at Krishnanagar in Nadia district, where Ms Moitra was sitting on the dais with the chief minister.

“Mahua, let me give a clear message here. I don’t need to see who is with or against whom. If a person doesn’t like a person, he puts some news on YouTube. Like this Politics of politics can go on one day but not forever. And only one person staying in one place forever is also not acceptable,” said Ms. Banerjee.

The Trinamool Congress president further said: “When elections are held, the party will decide who will contest and who will not. There should be no difference of opinion. I am telling you, everyone should work together.” Ms. Moitra listened silently to them.

While it was not clear to which specific instance the chief minister was referring, Ms Banerjee clarified that she was aware of the developments and the matter was investigated by the Additional Director General (Law and Order) and the state’s criminal investigation department. ,

A section of party leaders feel that Ms Banerjee was upset over an incident in which a woman protested the distribution of rural houses and leveled allegations against Trinamool Congress (TMC) Krishnanagar (North) president Jayant Saha . “I know who is the real person behind the game,” Ms. Banerjee told Mr. Saha at the same meeting.

Earlier this year, in August, Ms Moitra was replaced as the party’s Nadia district president. However, the MP has been given a crucial responsibility as he has been appointed as the party’s in-charge for Goa, where the TMC is testing political waters.

It is not unusual for the TMC president to publicly scold his party leaders. A few months ago, Ms Banerjee had cautioned Rajya Sabha MP and leader from Darjeeling Shanta Chhetri during an administrative meeting.

The Chief Minister’s remarks directed at Ms Moitra, active on social media, were trending on various social media platforms. Factionalism within the ruling party of West Bengal is a major issue that has been troubling senior party leaders.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership also tried to raise the issue. Amit Malviya, the party’s IT in-charge and co-supervisor in West Bengal, said Ms Banerjee’s comments indicated that she was using the police to keep tabs on her party members.

Mr Malviya tweeted: “In a shocking public revelation, Mamata Banerjee says she uses DG (Law & Order) & CID of West Bengal Police to keep tabs on party members, what are they? and what is their plot. All the tall talk about ‘fascism’ and ‘democracy’ takes a back seat in his police state.”
