Police have arrested a person for threatening to kill Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday. Though Fadnavis did not share details about the arrested person, the Pune Police had registered a non-cognizable (NC) offense against a man who claimed to have a “conspiracy” to kill CM Shinde at a hotel in Lonavala. The state intelligence department (SID) on Saturday received a specific information about the threat to the life of the chief minister, following which his security was beefed up. A senior SID official had said that additional security has been provided to the Chief Minister, who has Z+ category security.
Security has been beefed up at Shinde’s private residence in Thane and ‘Varsha’, an official residence in Mumbai. Shinde had received a threatening letter, which is suspected to have been sent by the Maoists last October, when he was the urban development minister and also the guardian minister of Naxalism-hit Gadchiroli district.
Shinde became the chief minister on June 30 this year when the Uddhav Thackeray-led government collapsed due to his rebellion with Shiv Sena MLAs.
