Man attacked for raising issue of ‘illegal’ sand mining in Tamil Nadu’s Viluppuram

A man who raised his voice against illegal mining in his area was brutally attacked by a group of at least 20 people in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram.

Pramod MadhavA man was brutally attacked for putting up a poster depicting places used for illegal sand mining in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram. Sadiq Hussain used Google images of the area for the posters he put up, claiming that the authorities took no action.

When reporters asked Hussain to show them the area where he claimed illegal sand mining was taking place, he took them to the spot, where a group of men began brutally attacking the camera .

Sadiq Hussain continued, “When a group of 20 people attacked me on Saturday evening, I took the journalists to the spot. Panchayat head Munwar, his brother Athar Basha and his sons Liaquat Ali and Asghar Ali Attacked me along with my relatives.” , He said that being a farmer he was compelled to raise an issue, his land was under threat of encroachment.

Police has started the investigations in the case.
