A 32-year-old man who went to Gadigumma Falls in Koyuru mandal of Vizag Agency for sightseeing drowned on Sunday.
The incident took place when he allegedly slipped and fell off a cliff while taking a selfie on his mobile phone. The deceased has been identified as S Ramana, a native of Pedamakaram village under Koyuru mandal.
Police said Raman had come to Gadigumma to attend his relative’s wedding and had gone to the waterfall around 2 pm to take a selfie.
Based on information from some visitors, the police launched a search operation to trace the missing person. They recovered the body on Monday.
Locals say the waterfall has turned into a death trap for the visitors, as over 20 people died on the spot in the past four years and most of them slipped off rocks and fell into the water while taking selfies .
Police said that despite warnings from locals, visitors are ignoring them and losing their lives for selfies.
