Man strangles wife in Karnataka court, soon after reunification verdict

After seven years of marriage, both of them filed for divorce.

A man slit his wife’s throat in a family court in Karnataka where the two had gone to attend a counseling session after filing for divorce. After the attack, the man tried to run away, but passersby overpowered him and handed him over to the police. The woman was taken to the hospital where she died during treatment.

Minutes earlier, in a counseling session, the couple had agreed to bury their differences and reunite to save their marriage of seven years.

Shivakumar attacked his wife Chaitra when she came out after an hour of counseling at Holenarsipura family court in Hassan district. He followed her to the washroom and slit her throat with an ax, causing her to bleed profusely. When he tried to run away after committing the crime, passersby overpowered him.

Chaitra was taken to a hospital where he was put on artificial respiration. He died during treatment as he was bleeding profusely due to a deep wound in his throat.

Shivakumar has been charged with murder.

Police officials are probing how the man managed to snatch the weapon inside the court premises.

“The incident happened in the court premises. We have taken him into our custody. We have seized the weapon which he used to commit the crime. We will investigate what happened after the counseling session and how he got the weapon inside the court. managed to get it.” Whether it was a pre-planned murder, we will have details during the investigation,” said Hariram Shankar, a senior police officer from Hassan.
