Manabe and Hasselman were cited for their work in “physical modeling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability, and reliably predicting global warming”.

The second half of the prize was awarded to Paris for “discovering the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales”.

The winners were announced on Tuesday by Goran Hansson, Secretary-General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The prestigious award is worth 10 million Swedish crowns ($1.15 million) and is given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
