Manchester United ready to make Harry Kane top priority in summer transfer window, says report

Manchester United ended their six-year drought last month by winning the Carabao Cup. A very coveted piece of silverware is undoubtedly what Manchester United fans and head coach Erik ten Haag have started their preparations for next season.

It is learned that the Manchester United team management is focusing on their offensive department and is looking to sign a striker as soon as possible. In an effort to strengthen their attacking unit, Manchester United are planning to make a move for prolific English striker Harry Kane.

A report published by the Manchester Evening News claims that Kane has emerged as Ten Haag’s prime target in a bid to strengthen the Red Devils’ attacking line-up in the summer transfer window. The article mentioned that some sources have revealed the Dutchman’s determination to lure Kane from Tottenham ahead of next season.

Earlier, Harry Kane had expressed his desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 amid huge interest from Premier League champions Manchester City. The move ultimately did not materialize after the Lillywhites reportedly did not want to let Kane go.

Erik ten Haag, on the other hand, has spoken openly about his intention to land an English striker. The former Ajax manager also admitted that Manchester United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has prevented him from focusing on some high-profile strikers.

“I would like to sign English players because I think there is only one criterion and that is quality in combination with price. It looks like English players are quite expensive. That is a fact you cannot deny. In the end, it’s about quality,” the 53-year-old explained at the start of this season.

Harry Kane became Tottenham’s all-time top scorer last month after striking in a Premier League match against second-placed Manchester City. Kane is now just one goal away from also setting the scoring record for England. He has so far received three Premier League Golden Boots and another Golden Boot award at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Harry Kane has scored 267 goals after playing 416 matches for Tottenham. In the international circuit, the 29-year-old has 53 goals to his credit. In his next match, Kane is expected to take the field against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, 11 March.
