Tulunadu Education Trust Chairman MB Puranik said here on Sunday, May 7 that several government educational institutions in Mangaluru City South assembly constituency were upgraded and their facilities were enhanced by releasing ₹221 crore by the government during the last five years.
Former member of Mangalore University Syndicate K. Talking to reporters along with Ramesh, Mr. Puranik said that the grant was released due to the efforts of MLA D. Vedvyas Kamath. He had presented several proposals to the government to upgrade the education infrastructure in the city and got them approved.
Mr. Puranik said that 13 upper primary schools in the city were upgraded in the first phase of the e-smart school scheme at a cost of about Rs 60 crore. Bokkapatna PU College in the Teaching School complex near Town Hall got 17 classrooms and toilets at a cost of Rs 5.57 crore, while Nalya PU College was approved with a grant of Rs 2 crore.
In Balmatta Government First Grade College, a new building and upgradation of infrastructure was undertaken at a cost of Rs 6.15 crore, while eight new classrooms were added in Car Street First Grade College at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore. The Kudmul Ranga Rao Girls’ Hostel was getting a new building near PVS for ₹9.82 crore, while two new hostels for minority community students were being built through the Waqf Board at a cost of ₹20 crore.
For the first time, three Government First Class Colleges Balmatta, Car Street and University Colleges have got ‘A’ grade from NAAC. Mr. Puranik said that government ITIs for boys and girls were upgraded at a cost of ₹33 crore and ₹34 crore respectively.
He said that overall the MLA has worked tirelessly to improve the education sector in his constituency.
