Mangaluru: The Mangaluru South Police Six fishermen from Andhra Pradesh were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly hanging fisherman Reverse and beating it with the hook of a pulley.
The brutal attack on 32-year-old Vaila Sheenu of Prakasam district was carried out after she was boarding a fishing vessel in Old Port (Dakke) when she was suspected of stealing two mobile phones.
Those arrested are Kondur Polaiya, 23, Avul Raj Kumar, 26, Karpingara Ravi, 27, Pralayakaveri Govindaiah, 47 (all from Nellore district) and Katingari Manohar, 21, Votu Kori Jalaiah, 30 (all from Prakasam district).
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said Sheenu was to join the accused on a fishing trip on the John Shailesh-2 ship on December 16. Last night they met at dinner. The next morning, upon realizing that two mobile phones are missing, they suspect Sheenu of stealing.
