In view of rising inflation, a Pune-based fruit seller has started a unique initiative to sell Alphonso mangoes on Equated Monthly Installments or EMIs. PTI informed of.
Gaurav Sanas of Gurukrupa Traders & Fruit Products is urging Alphonso lovers to put aside their financial worries and enjoy the king of fruits to their heart’s contentment. According to him the idea is to ensure that common people who usually cannot afford to buy Alphonso, also known as ‘Hapus’, can also get it this year.
Mr Sanas said if refrigerators and air conditioners can be bought on instalments, why not mangoes. talking to PTIHe also claimed that his family’s outlet is the first in the country to sell mangoes on EMI.

Alphonso mangoes of Deogarh and Ratnagiri, which are considered best, are currently being sold in retail at Rs 800 to 1300 per dozen.
“The prices are always very high at the beginning of the season. We thought if refrigerators, ACs and other appliances can be bought on EMI, then why not mangoes? Everyone can buy mangoes,” Mr Sanas told the news agency.
Further, Mr. Sanas pointed out that the process of buying fruits from his outlet on EMI is similar to buying a mobile phone on installments. They have installed point-of-sale (POS) machines that allow them to convert the bill amount into EMIs. The customer only needs to use a credit card, after which their amount is converted into installments of three, six and 12 months.
However, Mr Sanas clarified that the scheme is available only for a minimum purchase of Rs 5,000. He also informed that so far four customers have availed the benefits of the scheme.
