Repolling will be held on March 8 in six booths in two districts of Manipur, where assembly elections were held recently, officials said on Monday. Voting was declared void at these polling stations in Ukhrul and Senapati following the violence on March 5 during the second and final phase of assembly elections in the state, he said.
Re-polling will begin at 7 am and will end by 4 pm in Ukhrul, Kalhang, Pen, Ngmju, Yangkhulen and Mao Marafi. An estimated 84.90 percent polling was recorded in the second phase.
On March 5, one person was killed and another was injured when security personnel opened fire on a group of people who allegedly tried to snatch EVMs at Nagmaju village in Senapati district, State Election Commission sources said. The assembly elections will decide the electoral fate of 92 candidates, including 12 from the BJP, followed by the Congress (18), the National People’s Party (11), the Janata Dal (United) and the Naga People’s Front (10 each).
The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
