GUWAHATI: Eight more bodies have been recovered from tons of muddy debris of a landslide in Manipur’s Noni district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, taking the death toll to 16.
Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh, who was at the site for the second day on Friday, said, “Eight more bodies have been recovered today. Yesterday we were able to retrieve eight bodies. The entire area has become muddy and it is becoming difficult to work in muddy conditions.
On Thursday, 13 Territorial Army personnel and five civilians were rescued.
The missing include 16 workers from Assam who were engaged in railway construction at Tupul railway station where the landslide took place.

“Sad to know that 1 person from Morigaon, Assam lost his life, 5 are undergoing treatment and 16 are still missing Manipur Landslide, Cabinet colleague Shri @Pijush_hazarika will reach Manipur at the earliest to coordinate the rescue operations,” tweeted Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
